My report on the IAMERS European Meeting

by Philip F. Jacobus, CEO | September 21, 2016

Michael is fun to listen to, and because he is a genius, he is always coming up with some new way of looking at an old problem.

During a group discussion regarding GE's decision to enforce their software licensing, Michael suggested that this is a great opportunity for a company to write its own software.

That is the way he thinks!

Victor Cruz was there with his wife, Liz, and Victor also addressed the group. He talked about importing equipment into the United States and the challenges that importers and exporters face. It was an interesting talk and Victor gave us a very cool handout explaining the different Incoterms. If you do not have one of these, I encourage you to write to Victor and to ask him for one (I hope Victor is not upset for making that suggestion).

John and Carolyn Shaw were there. Carolyn is on the IAMERS Board and the two of them are such a lovely couple. John has a great reputation as an engineer and you have the feeling that he is also the sort of fellow that works through problems without making a big fuss. I think Carolyn really cares about IAMERS and it is a good thing because it is important to have people on the board who care and who actually do work.

Katie and Richard Moss-Solomon were there with their daughter, Meghan. Katie is also on the board and I believe she is also very interested in the growth and success of IAMERS. She is also an amazing photographer and finds a way to take a picture that makes everybody look good.

Mads Vittrup and Hassan El Azzazi were in attendance representing FlexRay. Both of these fellows are seasoned executives in our industry. I can see how they work together and complement each other. They are both nice and polite and you know that if you email them, you are going to get an answer. In the past, I always thought Mads was serious and conservative but it is hard to be too serious when you are around Hassan because he is a real fun-loving fellow. I would be afraid to go out for a night on the town with him because I would probably not make it home until 8:00am!

Diego de St. Albin was there. He is an interesting guy who in the past worked for MESA and now has business interests in both Europe and the United States. I really have to visit with him more to find out what he does and I know that he is successful in the field.

Chad Fowlkes was there. He is such a gentleman and hard-working at the same time. It seems like only yesterday I met him at RSNA and he told me about things he had on the drawing board and he has already completed his new test bays and now he is expanding even further.
