At that time Verily hinted at what it brought to the health care delivery table. “We have the data analytics and software to understand trends and make predictions across large quantities of data, and we see a clear opportunity to apply this approach to health data for insights that can impact care,” said Tom Stanis, head of software and analytics at Verily. “Together, with 3M's know-how and deep expertise in parsing and coding clinical data, we imagine a world where providers have precise information to guide focused improvement, and can consistently access objective, actionable feedback to make informed decisions.”
News of Alphabet health care efforts comes on the heels of its
mega-rival Amazon's announcement that it will join with Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase to tackle health care costs – at first, of its employees.

JPMorgan Chase Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon, whose organization is the largest U.S. bank by assets, observed in January when the news broke that, “our people want transparency, knowledge and control when it comes to managing their health care,” adding that, “the three of our companies have extraordinary resources, and our goal is to create solutions that benefit our U.S. employees, their families and, potentially, all Americans.”
It also comes after some criticism in mid-2016 over Verily's financials, which both its CEO Andrew Conrad and Google co-founder Sergey Brin
defended vigorously.
Part of Brin’s comments reportedly included the following statement: “It’s true that, you know, as a whole our Other Bets are not yet profitable, but some of them are, including Verily, on a cash basis and increasingly so. So we’re pretty excited about these efforts.”
At present, Verily appears to be looking for experts in health insurance. According to CNBC, it has recently posted openings for executive jobs for those with experience in insurance, health data aggregations and managing at-risk patients, and hired a manager from Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey.
