In closing, Hans Vandewyngaerde, Region Manager for Benelux and France at Agfa HealthCare, says: "When the AZ Groeninge hospital chose ORBIS, the management realized that it would be attracting a lot of attention with this project. The project is important to both Agfa HealthCare and AZ Groeninge hospital: to Agfa HealthCare, this is an opportunity to install its EPR (Electronic Patient Record) solution in its home market - it is already in use in 800 hospitals in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. To the AZ Groeninge hospital, an Agfa HealthCare client for years, the project affirms its ambition to present itself as a progressive hospital. ORBIS will enable the hospital to introduce the Electronic Patient Record throughout the hospital. The system will also contribute to the utilization of the clinical paths developed in recent years based on the hospital's workflow needs. Not least, ORBIS will give AZ Groeninge hospital the chance to take patient care to a new level: doctors and nurses will from now on have access to the information they need when they need it, enabling them to make more confident decisions and have more time available for patients requiring specialized treatment."

ORBIS, the Hospital Information System (HIS) from Agfa HealthCare, is a solution designed to improve patient care. The system makes patient data - including any diagnostic images - available immediately in an integrated network. It offers authorized nursing, technical and medical staff a simple way to access accurate patient records and histories. That results in quicker and better diagnoses and treatments, so patient care can be handled better and more efficiently. To date, Agfa HealthCare's ORBIS has been successfully deployed in over 750 institutions and has more than 450,000 daily users.
About AZ Groeninge hospital
Located in Kortrijk, AZ Groeninge hospital provides hospital services for the South West region of Flanders. Each year, the hospital treats approximately 35,000 hospitalized patients and some 35,000 outpatients. Currently divided among four locations in the city, the merged hospital has 2,300 employees plus 200 doctors, and the capacity for 1,100 hospital beds. During the transition phase in preparation for the move to a new hospital building, all the medical disciplines have been brought together at one of the four locations. Three of the four campuses will move to the new hospital located on the outskirts of Kortrijk as of 2009. The current geographic spread over four locations increases the need for a single integrated platform for all the different hospital workflows."
