The Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) has revised one of its most popular guides to include updated standards and regulations critical to a clinical engineering department's implementation of an effective electrical safety program.

Revised and expanded for the first time in more than three years, the information found in the new 2008 Electrical Safety Manual is based on current laws and applicable safety standards.

Specific updates to the manual include:
* New recommendations based on ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1 and the latest editions of NFPA 70 and NFPA 99.
* Concise tables summarizing the key requirements of applicable standards for quick reference.
* Additional guidance regarding isolated power systems.
* New material regarding electromagnetic interference (EMI) and human factors engineering.
* New regulations from the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies.
