Modular Devices helps their customers expand into new spaces with mobile and modular X-Ray labs for cath, angiography, and EP (electrophysiology for interventional procedures). Now the company has done some expansion of its own.

"The growth in those areas has caused our business to increase and allowed us to add labs and grow from 15,000 to 75,000 square feet," said Mark Koers, Account Executive for the Indianapolis-based company, which does business around the world.

About 25 specialized employees cover all the bases for customers including hospitals that use Modular Devices labs when their own are under construction. "Say they have only one cath lab and are replacing equipment. They'll use one of our mobile or modular labs for a short time frame of a few months to bridge their services so they don't shut down and send their patients to other competing hospitals," he said.

Another line of business comes from start-up programs where the modular lab placement is long term -- a couple of years. "They want to start their services now, get the cash flow and revenue going and get the practice up," he said. He noted that the modular labs are not on wheels but typically on pad sites. "Once [hospitals] can find that money for the space inside they can move the lab in house."

Modular Devices' new facility houses the entire company--corporate offices, production and engineering staff.
