March 7, 2022 - In recognition of his pioneering work in the field of proton therapy, Dr. Jay Loeffler, physician, and clinical researcher, has been awarded the National Association for Proton Therapy's 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Loeffler is a world leader with unparalleled experience in the treatment of brain and central nervous system (CNS) tumors and the use of stereotactic radiotherapy. His research, treatment methods and expertise have significantly contributed to the field of proton therapy.
Dr. Loeffler completed his Residency Program in Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. He joined the faculty of Joint Center for Radiation Therapy, Department of Radiation Therapy, Harvard Medical School as an instructor and progressed in the academic ranks to be promoted as the Andres Soriano Professor of Radiation Oncology, Harvard Medical School in 2000. He is devoted to educating and mentoring the next generation of Radiation Oncologists.
In addition to his commitment to education, he is dedicated to clinical research to advance the role of proton therapy in the management of patients with cancer. He became the Director of the Francis Burr Proton Therapy Center at Massachusetts General Hospital in 1996. During his tenure as the proton center director and then department chair of MGH, he has overseen the treatment of more than 10,000 children and adults with cancer. In his commitment to clinical research supporting the use of proton therapy, he has served as the principal investigator for NCI funded grant projects and has authored over 400 works on CNS radiotherapy and the importance of proton therapy.

The National Association for Proton Therapy will present the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Loeffler during a special program on April 5, 2022, in St. Pete, Florida at the 10th Annual National Proton Conference.
