According to Stephen J. Ubl, president and CEO, AdvaMed commends the Senate Appropriations Committee for providing FDA with additional funds, which will help the agency continue its crucial mission of protecting and promoting the public health. FDA has the vital responsibility to ensure the safety and effectiveness of America's medical technology products, and these additional resources will help it continue to meet its public health mandate.

"With these additional funds, FDA will be able to hire additional scientists and inspectors, expand its scientific training and strengthen its science programs to allow them to effectively regulate new and complex products," says Ubl.

The organization acknowledged Appropriations Chairman Robert Byrd (D-WV) and Ranking Member Thad Cochran (R-MS) for their leadership in moving this important measure through the Committee, and recognized Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI) and Sen. Robert Bennett (R-UT), chairman and Ranking Member, respectively, of the Appropriations Subcommittee with jurisdiction over FDA, for spearheading the increase in agency funding.
