The acquisition of the two radiotherapy centers marks Coastal Cancer Center's debut into the medical field of radiotherapy.
Independent cancer treatment provider OneOncology has acquired two radiation therapy centers in South Carolina from GenesisCare and plans to make them the first-ever radiation oncology component of its state partner, Coastal Cancer Center.

The deal enables local cancer patients to continue receiving radiotherapy services from nearby sources in Myrtle Beach, which has three linear accelerators, and Conway, which has one. Under the agreement, three radiation oncologists and 40 employees will work under the Coastal Cancer Center brand.

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, OneOncology has over 1,000 providers at more than 350 sites of care nationwide that see over 640,000 patients annually. It adds physicians, services, and sites of care to help its 20 practice partners such as Coastal Cancer Center to grow them while making care more affordable and in turn, accessible to patients than it would be in a hospital.

"Adding radiation oncology allows our practice to expand the care we can provide to communities in Horry and its surrounding counties," said Emily Touloukian, president of Coastal Cancer Center, Community Oncology Alliance Executive Committee member, and past president of the South Carolina Oncology Society, in a statement.

Coastal Cancer Center already offers diagnostic imaging, chemotherapy, and pathology. Its other locations include Loris Center and Murrells Inlet Center.

Among OneOncology’s tactics for growing platforms are group purchasing, operational optimization, data analytics, practice growth, and clinical innovation.

Just last month, in neighboring Alabama, OneOncology signed a finalized agreement with Clearview Cancer Institute to add infrastructure, data analytics, and expertise to grow the practice and make its high-quality cancer care more affordable to patients without disrupting practice independence. Clearview Cancer Institute currently performs MR, ultrasound, and PET/CT scans and offers infusion, oral pharmacy, laboratory, and clinical research services.

Private equity firm General Atlantic sold OneOncology in 2023 to global alternative asset management firm TPG and AmerisourceBergen Corporation.

Financial details for the sale of the radiation oncology centers were not disclosed.
