Dr. Alan Verrill
KANSAS CITY, Kan., February 07, 2024 — AdventHealth Shawnee Mission has named Alan Verrill, MD, its new president and chief executive officer, effective February 25.

Dr. Verrill is transitioning to AdventHealth Shawnee Mission from his role as president and CEO of AdventHealth South Overland Park, which opened in 2017 with a 24/7 emergency department, imaging, laboratory and medical office building prior to opening as a full-service hospital in 2021. During his time there, the facility was named a Top Hospital by the Leapfrog Group in 2023, highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality. More than 2,100 hospitals were considered for the award. Among the 132 hospitals that were selected in categories such as general, children’s, rural and teaching hospitals, AdventHealth South Overland Park received one of 35 Top General Hospital distinctions in the country, making it the only hospital in the Kansas City metropolitan area and Johnson County, Kan., to receive the 2023 Top Hospital award.

Before joining the team at AdventHealth South Overland Park, Verrill served as the chief medical officer at AdventHealth Littleton in Colorado for five years. In addition, he is a veteran of the United States Air Force and is a licensed internal medicine physician with more than 25 years of experience in the hospital setting. Verrill earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Atlantic Union College.

“With his background as a clinician, Alan is passionate about delivering high-quality, compassionate health care,” said Sam Huenergardt, regional president and chief executive officer of AdventHealth Mid-America Region. “He is a collaborator focused on building highly engaged teams built on trust and transparency. We are excited to have him join our leadership team at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.”

“I am grateful for my time with the incredible team at AdventHealth South Overland Park,” said Verrill. “I look forward to serving in this new role and seeing our mission of whole person, compassionate care continue to grow across the Kansas City community and on our own campus with the opening of the new Cancer Institute.”

Verrill’s new role comes at an exciting time for AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, having recently celebrated some important additional milestones, including:
