Ribbon cutting ceremony at the new distribution center
Cardinal Health has opened a new distribution center in Boylston, Massachusetts that will support the company's U.S. Medical Products and Distribution business. Starting early next year, the facility will offer specialized product handling services including refrigeration and hazardous material storage.
"This new distribution center offers increased capacity for medical products and modernized operations to enhance efficiencies and strengthen the healthcare supply chain," Mike Zatlukal, vice president of East Region Operations for Cardinal Health’s Global Medical Products and Distribution business, told HCB News. "It has double the warehouse space and triple the capacity for product storage locations compared to the Cardinal Health Bedford, Massachusetts facility it replaced."
This nearly 317,000-square foot facility will service customers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont, and Eastern Connecticut. Cardinal Health is positioning it as a single source of medical products for its customers' patient care needs.
The facility houses medical products including Presource procedural packs, which are custom kits for operating room and orthopedic procedures. It's also stocked with personal protective equipment like drapes, gloves, and gowns as well as other general hospital supplies.
Cardinal Health opened a 310,000-square foot replenishment center last year in Montgomery, New York in order to be able to quickly restock its distribution network, which includes the new Boylston facility.
The company also announced two other distribution centers
earlier this year in Walton Hills, Ohio. Those are slated to also open next year and will support the U.S. Medical Products and Distribution business in Greenville, South Carolina.
