Orthopedic device maker Zimmer notified U.S. health regulators that is recalling a surgical instrument used in implanting its NexGen replacement knee product.

Zimmer notified the FDA that it is recalling the instrument, called the tibial broach impactor, which is used in minimally invasive surgeries, according to a company spokesman. The spokesman said there are alternative surgical instruments available to use for the procedure.

Based in Warsaw, IN, Zimmer indicated it does not expect the recall to have a material impact on sales.
