Doximity has acquired Pathway Medical, a Montreal-based developer of AI-powered clinical reference tools, in a deal worth up to $63 million.

The purchase adds Pathway’s physician-led AI team and extensive structured medical data set to Doximity’s growing suite of AI offerings.

Founded in 2018, Pathway specializes in providing instant, evidence-based answers to clinical questions. About half of its staff are physicians. The company has compiled a data set covering guidelines, drug information, and landmark trials across all major specialties, designed specifically for AI training. Pathway’s AI model recently scored 96% on the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination benchmark, according to the company.

The deal closed July 29 for $26 million in cash and up to $37 million in equity grants.

“There’s a growing need for clinical tools that combine trusted evidence with the speed and adaptability of AI,” said Jon Hershon, Pathway’s CEO. “With Doximity, one of the most trusted platforms in healthcare, we’re now bringing that experience to millions for free, built directly into the tools they already use at the point of care.”

Jeff Tangney, Doximity’s co-founder and CEO, said Pathway’s data set will strengthen the company’s clinical reference capabilities. “They’ve painstakingly built one of the best data sets in medicine,” Tangney said.

San Francisco-based Doximity operates a digital platform used by more than 80% of U.S. physicians. Its tools support clinical collaboration, news and research updates, career management, telehealth, and documentation workflows.

Pathway’s tools will be integrated into Doximity’s platform, expanding access to its premium content, which previously cost $300 annually, to a wider audience.
