Cardiac imaging startup HeartFocus has launched its first clinical product in the U.S. market through a partnership with handheld ultrasound maker Butterfly Network.
The FDA-cleared software is now available on Butterfly’s single-probe ultrasound devices and can be used by any trained healthcare professional.
Developed by the Bordeaux, France-based company DESKi, HeartFocus uses AI to guide users through comprehensive echocardiographic image acquisition. According to the company, the platform enables non-specialists to produce diagnostic-quality heart scans after only a few hours of training, addressing common workforce and access limitations in cardiac imaging.

The launch follows FDA clearance and completion of an international clinical trial. HeartFocus is now available to hospitals, primary care clinics, and educational institutions across the U.S.
“HeartFocus” aims to reduce the dependency on trained sonographers and alleviate delays in cardiac diagnostics. The AI software integrates with Butterfly Network’s portable ultrasound system, allowing clinicians to perform cardiac assessments in a range of settings, including outpatient clinics, emergency departments, and rural health centers.
“With HeartFocus, we’re unlocking access to lifesaving heart scans wherever they’re needed most,” said Bertrand Moal, CEO of DESKi. “This isn’t just a product launch, it represents phase one in our mission to transform how and where cardiac care is delivered.”
Davinder Ramsingh, vice president of innovation partnerships and clinical development at Butterfly Network, said, “This commercial launch marks a first within the Butterfly Garden, offering deep integration with one of the most widely adopted handheld ultrasound systems in the U.S.”
HeartFocus was founded in 2023 by brothers Bertrand and Olivier Moal and has been trained on over 10 million cardiac data points. The company received the France 2030 Award from the French Ministry of Health in 2024 and is working with U.S. and European partners to expand access globally.
