Olympus has introduced its VISERA ELITE III surgical imaging platform in the United States, expanding its portfolio of systems designed for minimally invasive procedures.
The system consolidates multiple imaging capabilities into a single platform, including 4K and 3D visualization, Narrow Band Imaging (NBI), and fluorescence-guided surgery using indocyanine green. Additional features such as Yellow Enhancement and Continuous Auto Focus are intended to support visualization of anatomical structures during procedures.
According to Olympus, the platform is designed for use across a range of specialties, including colorectal, gynecological, urological, thoracic and general surgery, as well as arthroscopy and ENT procedures. It is also compatible with earlier-generation Olympus endoscopes, which may allow facilities to continue using existing equipment.

The system incorporates software-based controls that enable hospitals to activate features such as 3D or infrared imaging as needed. It also integrates with hospital IT infrastructure, including electronic health records, through Olympus’ VaultStream and LiveStream systems for video capture and documentation.
Clinical data cited by the company includes a 2025 survey in which most surgeons reported that Yellow Enhancement may help identify vessels and nerves in adipose tissue. Olympus also references studies suggesting that 3D imaging can reduce suturing time compared with 2D visualization, while fluorescence imaging may support assessment of tissue perfusion.
“VISERA ELITE III is more than a platform; it’s a strategic enabler for modern operating rooms,” said Darryl Rock, vice president and surgical solutions regional business lead at Olympus Corporation of the Americas.
The VISERA ELITE III platform was developed through Sony Olympus Medical, a joint venture formed in 2013. It is now commercially available in the U.S. and other global markets.
