Royal Philips has introduced the Alturion ultrasound system, a new platform designed for high-volume clinical environments that recently received FDA 510(k) clearance and CE mark certification.

The Amsterdam-based health technology company said Alturion expands its ultrasound portfolio with artificial intelligence-assisted workflow tools, advanced imaging capabilities and compatibility with its existing connected ultrasound ecosystem. The system is intended to help streamline examinations and support consistency across users in a range of clinical settings.

According to Philips, Alturion is built on a new processing architecture and features a 24-inch display and a compact design intended to support use in imaging departments and at the bedside. The company said the platform includes workflow features designed to reduce manual adjustments and shorten examination times.

Alturion is the latest Philips ultrasound system to incorporate Elevate Plus, which includes AI-assisted measurements for abdominal ultrasound. Philips said the software helps automate image acquisition and measurements while supporting reproducibility and reducing variability between examinations.

"At Philips, our goal is to develop technology that adapts to the realities of modern healthcare and helps care teams work more effectively in increasingly demanding clinical environments," said Jie Xue, chief business leader, Precision Diagnosis at Philips. "Alturion was designed with that goal in mind, helping healthcare providers deliver high-quality care with greater efficiency and confidence."

The system also shares a common user interface and interchangeable transducers with the company's EPIQ Elite and Affiniti ultrasound platforms. Philips said the compatibility is intended to simplify staff training and support standardized workflows across departments. Alturion is also compatible with Collaboration Live, the company's tele-ultrasound platform for remote consultation, training and clinical support.

Philips, headquartered in Amsterdam, reported approximately €18 billion in revenue for 2025 and employs about 64,300 people worldwide.
