CHICAGO, IL -- GE Healthcare is showcasing new enhancements to its innovative Voluson® compact ultrasound imaging platforms together with its advanced consoles to enable early diagnosis and clinical confidence for women's healthcare at the 18th World Congress of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) this week in Chicago, Illinois.

Building on GE's successful compact strategy, the Voluson i and Voluson e are dedicated women's health ultrasound systems enabling clinicians to detect and diagnosis with confidence through every stage of a women's life. Technology migration from premium, larger console systems to the compacts systems now allows for increased efficiency and standardization.

The latest technology introduced at ISUOG is SonoVCADlabor, GE's new proprietary software which measures fetal head direction, rotation and progression in the second stage of labor. Only available on the Voluson i compact ultrasound product, SonoVCADlabor is ideal for labor and delivery wards dealing with high-risk pregnancies, and teaching hospitals where doctors, nurses or midwives need additional clinical information. The technology helps pave the way for the future of advanced volume ultrasound and automation, enabling GE to continue its leadership role in consistently delivering clinically relevant technologies that transform healthcare.

"With our focus on reproductive medicine, obstetrics, labor & delivery, maternal fetal medicine and gynecology, GE continues to develop a broad selection of ultrasound and IT solutions," said Terri Bresenham, vice president of GE Healthcare's Diagnostic Ultrasound and IT business. "Whether clinicians need 2D or 3D/4D ultrasound, full-size consoles or new generation compact systems, GE offers innovative tools for the smallest private office to the largest hospital networks. GE's advanced ultrasound technology gives clinicians extraordinary imaging capabilities that help them make clinical decisions earlier and with enhanced confidence."

New automation software has been migrated across the women's healthcare ultrasound systems to enhance the Voluson i and Voluson e compact systems. The other software enhancements to the Voluson compact systems include:

-SonoVCADheart - GE's proprietary technology that streamlines the acquisition of volumetric images of the fetal heart. This innovative technology displays all of the 2-D planes, which complies with the ISUOG, AIUM et al recommended standard screening exam of the fetal heart.

-SonoAVCfollicle - which delivers an efficient method of calculating the number and volume of ovarian follicles. This is a critical diagnostic step in assisted reproductive medicine, because each fluid-filled follicle contains hormone producing cells and a maturing ovum (egg).

"Clinical workflow advances on the Voluson systems including these key automation tools for the acquisition of images used in women's health labor and delivery makes ultrasound workflow quicker and easier by combining reporting and image capabilities - and ultimately inspiring clinical confidence extraordinary patient care, " said Bresenham.
