The association for medical imaging management revs up for its 38th Annual Meeting

The AHRA Annual Meeting and Exposition will be held August 22-26, 2010, at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center in National Harbor, Md., just outside of Washington, D.C. Over 1,000 imaging management professionals will be in attendance and over 200 exhibitors will present the latest in imaging equipment, software and support services.

The Gaylord National has been open since April 2008 and is a first-class destination located along the Potomac River just 8 miles from Washington, D.C. It offers sweeping views of the river and city and has a convenient water shuttle to nearby Old Town Alexandria.

Featured Presentations

Helen Darling, president of the National Business Group on Health, will give the keynote address on Monday morning. She will discuss "Health Care Reform: The Employers' Perspectives on Quality, Safety, CER, Payment Policies and Value Purchasing." Tuesday's keynote speaker is Garrison Wynn, who will present "The Real Truth about Success - What the Top 1 Percent Do Differently."

On Wednesday, Bob Murphy will give a presentation on "Service Excellence in Imaging" and Larry Johnson will close the meeting with "There is No 'They': Delivering Care from the Customer Perspective." Throughout the four days of the meeting, participants will be able to choose from over 80 breakout sessions to attend on all areas of imaging management.

The Expo is an integral part of the educational experience and attendees will have dedicated time each day to visit with over 200 vendors. This is an excellent opportunity to compare products and services and to learn about the latest imaging technologies from leading manufacturers and providers.

Other Meeting Highlights

  • Pre-conference workshops on Sunday, August 22nd: "Leadership in Imaging Nursing Management" in conjunction with the Association for Radiologic and Imaging Nursing (ARIN) and "Patient Safety: Why, What and How?" presented by James Conway, Gail Nielsen, Judy Dye, and Max Grady.

  • Social events: President's Reception on Sunday evening and the extremely popular theme party on Wednesday night.

  • Open round-table discussions: these will take place each morning during breakfast and will be facilitated by a knowledgeable leader. Topics include: career ladders, process improvement and working effectively with radiologists.

  • Poster session: the theme is performance improvement and entries will demonstrate measurable outcomes. Meeting attendees will view the entries, take away ideas, and vote for the winning poster.

  • AHRA Education Foundation fundraising events: the 2010 Imaging Classic Golf Tournament will be held at Potomac Ridge Golf Club on Sunday morning August 22. A new event, the Run for Health, is a 2 mile fun run also held Sunday morning.

  • The Annual Meeting Blog (ahra2010.wordpress.com) has been established to connect AHRA members, meeting attendees, speakers, and exhibitors. Check it out for continuous updates before and during the meeting.
