ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The American Society of Radiologic Technologists and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists announced today that they will send the complete Online Digital Imaging Academy course at no cost to all ARRT-recognized radiography, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy educational programs in the U.S.

The ASRT and ARRT will provide the course in CD format in early June so program directors can incorporate the content into their curriculum for the 2011-2012 school year. Program directors will be sent a set of CDs by mail and be given a license to use ODIA's 11 modules for educational purposes.

"The ASRT and ARRT understand the importance of providing radiologic science educational programs with tools to prepare students for the real-world work environment," said ASRT Chief Executive Officer Sal Martino, Ed.D., R.T.(R), FASRT, CAE. "We are thrilled that we will be sending educational programs the full ODIA package in a format that will allow them to maximize the content and provide up-to-date education on digital imaging technology."

ODIA, which was launched in 2008, was a joint project between the ASRT Education and Research Foundation and the ARRT. It was designed to give radiologic technologists and radiologic science students a solid understanding of the technology and application behind digital imaging systems.

Since its launch, radiologic science programs have embraced ODIA. Its interactive modules have provided educators with a unique way to teach the core principles of digital imaging technology.

More than 50,000 individuals have registered for ODIA and 250,000-plus continuing education credits have been awarded to registered radiologic technologists. Moreover, around 4,300 people have completed all of the modules and earned a diploma recognizing their achievement.

Under the contract terms between ASRT and ARRT, ODIA availability will expire on Oct. 1, 2011.
