Accuray Inc. has installed more than 600 of its radiosurgery and CT-guided radiation therapy units worldwide, the company revealed this week.
The figures were announced by Euan Thompson, chief executive of the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based med tech company, at the annual J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco on Monday.
The total includes both the CyberKnife radiosurgery platform launched by Accuray in 2001, and the TomoTherapy image-guided radiation therapy machines originally developed by TomoTherapy Inc., a company Accuray
acquired last June.

Accuray said in a press release that its first-generation CyberKnife and TomoTherapy units were reaching "the end of their life cycle," meaning it expects replacement business as well as "the opportunity to capture the replacement market for older, pre-existing linacs at centers that desire newer, state-of-the-art capabilities."
Accuray's stock rose about 3 percent to hit $4.62 a share in morning trading Tuesday on Nasdaq.
