CyberKnife arrives in Mexico

by Brendon Nafziger, DOTmed News Associate Editor | January 17, 2012
Accuray Inc. said Tuesday a hospital in Monterrey, Mexico has become the first clinic south of the border to treat patients with its CyberKnife radiosurgery platform.

"Only in Mexico, first in Latin America," the Christus Muguerza Hospital Alta Especialidad said on its website advertising its CyberKnife services.

The hospital, part of the Christus Muguerza chain, began treating patients with the radiosurgery system in October, Accuray said. Eight patients have been treated thus far.

In a statement, Euan S. Thomson, Accuray's president and CEO, said the installation represents the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company's "commitment to growing our presence outside the U.S. in emerging markets."

Earlier this month, Accuray announced it and its TomoTherapy subsidiary had installed 600 radiation therapy units worldwide.
