Reston, Va.-Matti Herrera Bower, mayor of Miami Beach, has issued an official proclamation declaring "Nuclear and Molecular Imaging Week" during SNM's 2012 Annual Meeting. The meeting is one of the world's largest events focusing exclusively on fulfilling the educational and networking needs of the nuclear medicine and molecular imaging community.
SNM's Annual Meeting will bring together more than 4,000 members of the nuclear medicine and molecular imaging community, including physicians, technologists, scientists, physicists, pharmacists and laboratory professionals, to learn and share research about advances in the practice of molecular imaging and therapy. More than 160 exhibitors will also be in attendance displaying breakthrough technologies and developments in the field.
Annually, more than 17 million men, women and children undergo safe, noninvasive nuclear medicine and molecular imaging procedures with state-of-the-art imaging technologies-including positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission-computed tomography (SPECT) scans-to "photograph" biological targets or pathways in the body to help diagnose disease and treat disease and evaluate how well treatment is working.

Molecular imaging is at the forefront of "personalized medicine" because it provides patient-specific information that allows tailored treatment of disease and is helping to advance the understanding, diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of cancer, cardiovascular disease and neurological disorders to improve the lives of people worldwide.
The SNM 2012 Annual Meeting will be held June 9-13 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Fla. For more information or to register, visit http://www.snm.org/am2012.

About SNM-Advancing Molecular Imaging and Therapy
SNM is an international scientific and medical organization dedicated to raising public awareness about what molecular imaging is and how it can help provide patients with the best health care possible. SNM members specialize in molecular imaging, a vital element of today's medical practice that adds an additional dimension to diagnosis, changing the way common and devastating diseases are understood and treated.
SNM's more than 17,000 members set the standard for molecular imaging and nuclear medicine practice by creating guidelines, sharing information through journals and meetings and leading advocacy on key issues that affect molecular imaging and therapy research and practice.
