Tustin, Calif. -- Providing clinicians real time data to optimize radiation dose management during cardiac procedures, Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. introduces the FDA-cleared Dose Tracking System for InfinixTM-i cardiovascular X-ray. The Dose Tracking System visualizes X-ray emissions like never before through an easy-to-read color-coded display.

"We partnered with Toshiba to develop the Dose Tracking System to further improve the safety and well-being of patients during interventional procedures," said Dr. Neil Dashkoff, clinical professor of medicine, University at Buffalo; director, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Erie County Medical Center. "This user-friendly Dose Tracking System assists the operator to 'spread the skin dose,' minimizing the risk of deterministic skin injury to any given area. This is particularly important during long interventional procedures and in circumstances where the patient may return to the cath lab within a few months of the incident procedure."

Toshiba's Dose Tracking System displays an approximation of patient skin dose on an intuitive and easy to interpret color-coded indicator presented as a graphical representation of the patient that can be monitored in real time throughout the exam.
"Through our partnership with the University at Buffalo, Toshiba designed the Dose Tracking System as a visual aid, enabling clinicians to monitor patient radiation exposure levels with an anatomical reference," said Shuzo Yamamoto, senior vice president, Toshiba.

The Dose Tracking System is the latest addition to the Infinix-i's robust dose management package.

Spot Fluoroscopy is another Infinix-i dose management technology, offering a more complete picture while improving safety during interventional procedures. It provides improved imaging while better managing radiation exposure by providing a live "spot" of fluoroscopy overlaid onto the Last Image Hold (LIH) surrounding area.

Both technologies will be showcased at the Heart Rhythm Society's (HRS) annual meeting (Booth #418) in Denver, and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) annual meeting (Booth #1310) in Orlando, Fla., both May 8-11, 2013.
