Report ranking
U.S. News & World Report has issued its list of "America's Best Hospitals 2006," a rating of institutions that includes categories such as cancer, gynecology, ophthalmology, urology and other specialties.

The list contains few surprises. Johns Hopkins is number one overall for the 16th straight year (see related story). The Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General, and UCLA Medical Center round out the top five.

It's a tough list to crack: Out of 5,189 hospitals, only 3 percent, 176 in all, are ranked in one or more of the 16 specialties in this year's "America's Best Hospitals," the publication reports. Of those, just 14 qualified for the Honor Roll by ranking at or near the top in at least six specialties--a demonstration of broad expertise.
