ACR Invests in Future Generations of Radiology Leadership, With GE's Support

Since the first X-ray taken more than a century ago, radiology has played a critical role in the evolution of healthcare, helping physicians see inside the body to diagnose disease and optimize treatment. Recognizing that advancing radiology depends not only on technology, but also people and processes, GE is supporting the American College of Radiology's (ACR) efforts to help develop tomorrow's leaders in the field.

Recently, GE announced a significant donation to the ACR Foundation, an organization whose mission is to support charitable, scientific and educational programs and services for the promotion and advancement of the field of radiology. Specifically, GE's gift will help drive ACR's Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI) and its Leading Radiology into the Future campaign.

GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt, honorary chair of the RLI campaign said, "GE is proud to support the Radiology Leadership Institute because it impacts both healthcare quality and leadership development globally. The future of radiology depends on not just advanced technology, but empowering the next generation of radiology leaders."

The RLI is one of radiology's premiere professional development and leadership academies globally.

"I believe the Radiology Leadership Institute comes at a critical time in healthcare," said Carol M. Rumack, MD, FACR.

"Radiologists will survive and thrive if they get the tools to be outstanding leaders as the entire healthcare system changes reimbursement patterns and emphasizes outcomes and value rather than just volume. We all need to learn how to best succeed and will be best prepared with this outstanding program."

The RLI prepares clinicians with leadership training to not only further develop their careers but to also advance the field of radiology and meet today's healthcare challenges to ensure the highest standards of quality in patient care.

"Radiology has enjoyed decades of success based on advancing technology and growing applications. Now we face the challenges of commoditization and demonstrating value. To face these challenges, we need to provide not only image interpretation but embrace responsibility for the entire enterprise of medical imaging and therapeutic services. That will require a greater scope of skills than taught in traditional residency programs," added Howard B. Fleishon, MD, MMM, FACR.

"The RLI delivers state of the art leadership training through a Radiology-specific business school approach using a variety of interactive and case-based teaching platforms."
