Shore Medical Center
The CT Scanner is a valuable diagnostic tool nationwide. Unfortunately, the use of traditional CT scanners has led to concerns about the levels of radiation exposure that occurs for adults and children during scans. At Shore Medical Center, that is no longer an issue.

Continuing its commitment to provide the safest high-quality care to the community, Shore and its radiology and diagnostic imaging partner - Advanced Radiology Solutions - are proud to be the first in the United States to exclusively use Toshiba Prime and RXL Ultra Low Dose CT Scanners in both its Diagnostic Imaging and Emergency Departments. The equipment ensures that all patients - including children treated in Shore's state-of-the-art Pediatric Care Center - will receive the highest image quality at the lowest possible radiation dose.

"Since introducing our first Ultra Low Dose CT Scanner in 2012, we have seen the tremendous benefits of reducing radiation exposure to our patients while enhancing the quality of the imaging we provide," said Derek Suragh, PhD, MBA, administrative director of Shore's Radiology Department. "Parents, in particular, can take comfort that when their child requires a CT Scan, they are receiving the lowest and safest diagnostic dose available today."

CAT Scan, or CT Scan as it is properly called, is a painless, non-invasive medical test and one of the most common diagnostic procedures in modern medicine. It allows our highly-trained physicians to see inside the body with more clarity than is possible with a traditional X-ray, thus helping to diagnose tumors, fractures, bony structures and infections in the organs and tissues of the body.

Shore was the first medical facility in the country to have the Toshiba Prime
AIDR 3D Ultra Low Dose CT Scanner, which delivers the highest quality image at the lowest possible radiation dose. Its large bore opening offers a more spacious feeling for patients, and a higher table weight limit expands the range of people who can be imaged. Among its most important features, the Toshiba Prime AIDR 3D Ultra Low Dose CT Scanner provides a special pediatric package for use with children.

The Shore Medical Center Diagnostic Imaging Department provides patients and their physicians with fast, accurate radiologic diagnostic information, which is crucial for the early detection and treatment of disease and illness. Services provided include general X-ray, interventional radiology, mammogram, ultrasound, MRI, nuclear medicine, CT scans, PET and DaTscan, which is used in the early diagnosis of Parkinsonian syndromes, including Parkinson's disease.

In 2012, Shore Medical Center welcomed the highly skilled radiologists from Advanced Radiology Solutions (ARS) as the medical center's new radiology partner. The ARS team includes 25 fellowship-trained and board certified radiologists who cover the broad spectrum of radiology, including interventional radiology, breast imaging, musculoskeletal radiology and neuroradiology.
