Eastman Kodak Company has introduced an integrated portable X-ray/computed radiography system for mobile medical imaging applications. The compact KODAK Point-of-Care CR-ITX 560 System delivers excellent image quality and an efficient digital workflow for a wide range of facilities that conduct standard bedside diagnostic x-ray imaging, including intensive care units, clinics, nursing homes and hospitals of all sizes. The new system was announced at the American Healthcare Radiology Administrators' (AHRA) annual meeting. It will be available worldwide by November.

"Portable imaging has always been challenging because you don't have a table and it's difficult to position patients. The CR-ITX 560 system provides an affordable and practical way for film-based healthcare facilities to achieve increased flexibility and reduced retakes through digital capture of portable exams," said Mike Marsh, General Manager, Digital Capture Solutions and Vice President, Eastman Kodak Company.

"Our new system also provides inceased productivity for healthcare facilities that currently have a digital imaging workflow. This mobile system readily provides digital images for integration into existing networks and eliminates the need for technologists to walk CR cassettes to a central processing area," he said.


Kodak worked with Siemens Medical Solutions to develop the unit, which combines a tabletop KODAK CR system and Kodak's image processing software with a Siemens portable X-ray system. The integrated system features a shared user interface and power source. The CR-ITX 560 processes up to 60 images an hour and supports multiple plate sizes. Images are available for review in just 38 seconds on the system's touch screen monitor. The system can acquire up to 100 images on a single battery charge.

The new portable system has hospital information system/radiology information system (HIS/RIS) compatibility so that worklists containing patient identification and image study requests can be downloaded. The CR-ITX 560 supports DICOM Store and DICOM Print capabilities and uses a standard network outlet for communication. In addition, the system can operate over a wireless network connection through its laptop's WiFi adapter.
