Fuji Receives FDA Clearance for Obliquus 3D Software

Fuji's Synapse PACS
Las Vegas, NV - FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA has received FDA 510(k) clearance of Obliquus, an integrated 3D software package providing diagnostic MIP (Maximum Intensity Projection) and MPR (Multiplanar Reconstruction) functionality that is critically important to the radiologist's diagnostic process. A software option for Fuji PACS facilities using Synapse version 3.1.1 and higher, Obliquus was designed to reduce facilities' requirements to integrate a third party 3D solution for basic, commonly-used functions.

Because the Obliquus software was written and developed by Fuji and is a direct component of Fuji's Synapse PACS, it offers a number of advantages to both radiologists and their facilities over the use of a third party 3D solution. Radiologists benefit from the availability of Obliquus anywhere on the network that Synapse is available, even from remote locations since it works with compressed studies. It also allows users to maintain productivity by seamlessly displaying any cross-sectional study while within the Synapse application; there is no need to exit to a new application.

Facilities benefit from the ability to leverage the use of existing Synapse workstations, as well as from the ease of deployment. Additionally, Obliquus works with the same consistent user interface that Synapse is well known for, so training requirements are minimized.

"Traditionally facilities have met visualization requirements by using third party software, working offline from the PACS application," explained Bob Cooke, Fuji's Executive Director of Marketing and Product Management. "But the use of these third party products has often been inconsistent with the distributed nature of the radiology process today. We've designed Obliquus to be a powerful tool for bringing together the distributed diagnosis requirements of radiology with the need for advanced visualization."

The Obliquus 3D component is a step towards the realization of Fuji's Comprehension vision, which is the strategy for expanding Synapse to cover all the functions of traditional systems such as RIS, mammography, 3D, and reporting and decision support, in one, single comprehensive system. While it provides all the basic diagnostic 3D functions that radiology uses today, Fuji will continue to innovate and develop solutions that offer fully integrated and high resolution, interactive visualization, providing comprehensive solutions for facilities to better manage the ever increasing amounts of volumetric data today's modalities are producing.

Obliquus is currently available to Fuji customers worldwide that are using Synapse version 3.1.1 or higher.
