Las Vegas, NV - FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA, Inc. has announced a new software upgrade for the DryPix 5000 which increases throughput to match the performance of Fuji's flagship DryPix 7000 while still retaining the convenience of 110-volt power. The DryPix 5000 now provides throughput up to 240 films per hour with access to the first film in only 65 seconds, making it the fastest dry laser imager available.

With this new software upgrade, the DryPix 5000 offers increased speed while continuing to provide the same outstanding image quality that the Fuji DryPix line is known for. The DryPix 5000 and DryPix 7000, as well as Fuji's DryPix 4000, offer 50-micron resolution and 3.6 maximum density capabilities and provide the accurate and consistent performance necessary for mammography printing.

All three units are FDA 510(k) cleared for use with all approved Full Field Digital Mammography (FFDM) devices including Fuji's Computed Radiography for Mammography (FCRm) system which received FDA approval for sale in the U.S. on July 10, 2006. The three DryPix units have also been validated by FFDM pre-market application (PMA) holders GE Healthcare, Hologic and Siemens.

According to Robert Neary, Fuji's National Marketing Manager, Imaging Systems, "Fuji provides a solution to meet the printing needs of any women's health facility. With its higher throughput and up to three film drawers, the DryPix 5000 is ideal for centralized printing at facilities offering a number of women's imaging services including mammography and ultrasound - it has a throughput of 180 14 x 17 inch films per hour for ultrasound. Alternatively the DryPix 4000 is the ideal choice for dedicated mammography printing."

Newly upgraded DryPix 5000 units, as well as upgrade packages for existing units, will be available in August 2006.
