"Dr. Patterson brings significant experience running outstanding multidisciplinary clinical and research programs," said Dr. Steven J. Corwin, chief executive officer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. "His tremendous success as a clinician, researcher, and administrator, coupled with his commitment to excellence in health care delivery and patient-centered service, will ensure that NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center will continue to deliver the highest quality, most compassionate care to our patients and families."

"NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center has a rich history of medical excellence and an international reputation as one of the best places to receive care in the world," said Dr. Patterson. "I am very excited to be joining the leadership team and am honored to have been selected for this position."

Dr. Patterson is a clinician-scientist who has served in multiple leadership roles. In 2000, he was recruited to the University of North Carolina to lead its cardiovascular research institute. Having achieved consistent success in this role, Dr. Patterson was appointed chief of cardiology in 2005. Under his leadership, the division improved the quality and efficiency of clinical services, enhanced and expanded patient access, and reversed a budget deficit to become profitable. Dr. Patterson's success as division chief led to his appointment as the founding physician-in-chief of the Center for Heart and Vascular Care, a clinical care center that takes a comprehensive approach to treating cardiovascular diseases.
