Yesterday, CT and X-ray tube manufacturer Dunlee announced the expansion of its product portfolio to include replacement CT tubes for BrightSpeed Select series scanners. This version of the Dunlee DA 165NP tube includes unique parts compatible with GE BrightSpeed Select Excel/Edge/Elite CT scanners. This tube is a replacement for the GE MX 165CT (D3146T/D3147T).

Dunlee's move to supply the replacement tube was in part driven by health care's current economic crunch as hospitals and health care systems keep an eye on the bottom line and seek out budget-friendly solutions to meet their needs. The choice to focus on this tube for the latest update was also based on the technical aspects as well.

"Dunlee chose to introduce this tube based on the simplicity of the design program combined with the growing requests from several of our service partners," said John Macko, product manager for Dunlee. "This product continues to complete the Dunlee replacement tube product offerings for current GE scanners."
Macko says the majority of Dunlee's work in bringing the tube to market had to deal with handling regulatory paperwork and conducting safety testing with the design effort taking less than six months.

Macko estimates the initial sales will be around a couple of hundred tubes per year and growing as the install base ages. Currently, the install base for the tubes numbers around 3,000 with systems using the tube in forward production meaning the number will only continue to grow.
