DOTmed and other key players in the medical equipment business gathered recently at FIME 2006, held in Miami, Fla. August 16-18. Suppliers, manufacturers, dealers, distributors and purchasing agents networked at the conference.

A vast array of markets were represented from hospital equipment, disposable medical products, HME/DME home care supplies, surgical tools, diagnostic equipment, emergency medical supplies, laboratory equipment, long-term care products, dental equipment, rehabilitation and orthopedic products, imaging equipment, medical services, biomedical, pharmaceutical and others.

Latin America is a significant region for the used medical equipment industry. "It's is one of the largest markets," said Mitchell Aguirre, DOTmed's sales manager. "This international show attracted mostly manufacturers--people looking to find distributors of products. People came from South America looking for lines of product to sell or carry, for dealers, or equipment to bring down to South America."

DOTmed was an exhibitor at the event and Philip Jacobus, president of DOTmed, gave a presentation on "How to Protect Yourself Buying Medical Equipment Online."

Attendees expressed both interest and concern with the idea of buying equipment online. "DOTmed has gone a long way to alleviate those feelings of anxiety and every day more people become comfortable dealing online because DOTmed is a trusted medium of buying equipment," Aguirre said.

The event was expected to draw about 20,000 buyers and more than 3,000 suppliers but the numbers were down this year due to the travel security restrictions that hit just before the event.
