Kalare with Flat Panel Detector Receives FDA Clearance

Tustin, Calif. - Many clinicians are surprised to find the levels of scatter radiation they are exposed to during X-ray exams. To better protect both clinician and patient while delivering the highest-quality imaging, Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc.'s KalareTM R&F digital X-ray system with the dynamic flat panel detector (FPD) has received FDA clearance.

The enclosed table design of the Kalare FPD R&F system may reduce scatter radiation by up to 95 percent, optimizing safety for patients and staff, while its 17ʺ[<02BA>][<02BA>] x 17ʺ[<02BA>][<02BA>] size provides quality images edge-to-edge without an increase in dosage. This design also helps reduce panning time for exams requiring fluoroscopy, such as a barium swallow, and eliminates periphery image distortion, leading to higher image quality and better diagnoses.

"Adding an FPD to the Kalare enables clinicians to obtain more information from the images faster, resulting in quicker, more accurate patient diagnoses," said David Sloop, director, X-ray Vascular Business Unit, Toshiba. "But beyond the clinical benefits, this technology offers these improvements in conjunction with a far safer environment for both patient and provider."

The Kalare R&F digital X-ray system will be showcased at this year's Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting in Chicago, Nov. 30-Dec. 5, 2014 (Booth #7333, North Hall).
