Wausau, WI - Research conducted by Katie Beleznay, M.D., Daniel P. Friedmann, M.D., Ana Marie Liolios, M.D., Adam Perry, M.D., and Mitchel P. Goldman, MD was selected as Editor's Choice in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine (LSM).

The manuscript titled, "Lupus Miliaris Disseminatus Faciei Treated With 1,565nm Nonablative Fractionated Laser Resurfacing: A Case Report" was published in LSM, the official journal of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, Inc. (ASLMS).

While nonablative fractionated lasers have been used to effectively treat granulomatous disorders, there is little data on their use for treatment of Lupus miliaris disseminates faciei (LMDF). LDMF presents as red-brown papules on the face that can resolve with scarring and is often resistant to treatment.

"Lupus miliaris disseminates faciei (LMDF) is a rare granulomatous disorder that is challenging to treat. We report on the use of a novel 1565 nm nonablative fractionated laser for successful treatment of LMDF which was previously unresponsive to multiple other therapies. This device could be an exciting new tool in the treatment of granulomatous conditions such as LMDF," stated Katie Beleznay, M.D.

Dr. Beleznay completed her medical training and dermatology residency at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. She is a Clinical Instructor with the UBC Department of Dermatology and is currently completing a one-year fellowship in cosmetic and laser dermatology with Drs. Jean and Alastair Carruthers and Dr. Shannon Humphrey in Vancouver.
