Wayne Moore has been named as the new Chair for the Ultrasound Technical Committee for the Medical Imaging Technology Alliance (MITA), the medical device division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). Through NEMA, MITA is a leading standards-development organization for medical imaging and radiation therapy equipment comprised of Original Equipment Manufacturers that make up 90% of the market. The standards developed by MITA are voluntary guidelines that establish commonly accepted methods of design, production, testing and communication for imaging and cancer treatment products. Sound technical standards of this kind improve safety and foster efficiencies in how care is delivered. MITA also works closely with other groups such as AdvaMed and directly with various regulatory entities such as the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on issues related to technology assessment policies. Commenting, G. Wayne Moore said “The work that MITA’s member companies perform through the various technical committees is extremely important to both the advancement of the science of medical imaging, as well as the safety of the devices.
