February 04, 2016, Reston, VA — H. Benjamin Harvey, MD, JD, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and Courtney C. Moreno, MD, Emory University, Atlanta, GA, are recipients of the American College of Radiology (ACR) 2016 Bruce J. Hillman Fellowship in Scholarly Publishing.
“Both awardees are highly successful junior faculty members who have shown by their accomplishments an interest in pursuing scholarly journalism as an integral part of their future careers,” said Bruce J. Hillman, MD, FACR, founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR). “This publishing fellowship — which provides a concentrated medical editing, journalism and publishing experience — encourages careers in radiology journalism through hands-on experience and ultimately advances the field,” he added.
Harvey, who is on the faculty in the radiology department at Massachusetts General Hospital, has led a diverse group of research efforts focused on improving the practice of radiology, point-of-care clinical decision support and liability issues. Moreno, who is an assistant professor of radiology and director of the ultrasound division at Emory, has research interests in health policy and medical journalism and medical publishing.

Both will spend two weeks on site in Reston and New York with Hillman; Ruth Carlos, MD, FACR, JACR deputy editor; journal staff members; and representatives of Elsevier, JACR’s publisher. After the on-site component of the fellowship, the fellows will work on a project to enhance the appeal of the journal. Fellows may be invited to work with JACR as members of its editorial board.
JACR is the official journal of the American College of Radiology, providing information on topics affecting the practice of diagnostic radiologists, interventional radiologists, medical physicists and radiation oncologists. The fellowship is open to all ACR members who hold U.S. or Canadian appointments as staff radiologists. The journal will issue a call for applications for the 2017 fellowship this spring, with an expected deadline for submission of Aug. 31. Further information is available by e-mailing Brett W. Hansen, CAE, JACR senior managing editor.
