In January, Uber teamed up with MedStar Health in Maryland and the D.C. area in a similar transportation collaboration. Through that partnership, a “Ride with Uber” button is displayed on the MedStar website where patients can find out the wait time and approximate cost of a ride, and then request one.

Since its founding in March 2009, Uber has become available in 58 countries and 300 cities worldwide. Currently, more than eight million people use Uber and over one billion Uber trips have been taken.

“At HackensackUMC, we are committed to providing the best care to patients in the most convenient ways possible,” said Garrett. “Through our partnership with Uber, we’re making sure that the level of care we offer here extends all the way to your doorstep.”

Ridesharing partnerships with different health care facilities are not the only examples of Uber’s interest in health care. In 2014, the company ran a pilot program called UberHEALTH to make flu vaccines more readily available to people in Washington D.C., Boston and New York.

Together with Vaccine Finder, a free online service that helps consumers locate vaccine providers, users who requested UberHEALTH service received a flu prevention pack and the option to request a flu shot from a registered nurse, at no cost. The program extended in 2015 to more than 35 U.S. cities.
