AMA statement on the death of U.S. President Gerald R. Ford
December 27, 2006
"The American Medical Association joins the nation in mourning the death of former U.S. President Gerald Ford. President Ford ably led our country through turmoil, and for that we remain a grateful nation.
"President and Mrs. Ford's honesty and openness about Mrs. Ford's battles with breast cancer and substance abuse helped change the way the American public approaches illnesses once considered taboo. This open communication about Mrs. Ford's health is their public health legacy to our country."
