AAMI is teaming up with a national nursing association to develop and publish the 2nd edition of Healthcare Technology Horizons -- a special publication focusing on issues of mutual interest to nurses, biomedical equipment technicians, clinical engineers, and other medical technology professionals.
The publication, which will be mailed to all AAMI members in May as a benefit of membership, will include articles on ultrasound maintenance, medical imaging data, technology to promote perinatal patient safety, recalibrating equipment, infusion/medication safety systems, and fetal heart monitoring (FHM) technologies, and several other topics.
Healthcare Technology Horizons is being developed in collaboration with the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), a 22,000-member group that provides information and support to nurses to deliver the highest quality care to women and newborns.

The publication is being created in direct response to a priority set by AAMI's Technology Management Council (TMC) to improve the communication and interaction between nurses and biomeds.
"The articles will provide important information on the safe and effective use of devices and help members of both associations stay abreast of the cutting-edge medical technologies and procedures," says Steve Campbell, AAMI's Vice President of Communications.
With a circulation of 20,000, this special magazine will be launched and distributed at AAMI's 2007 Annual Conference in Boston and the AWHONN 2007 Convention in Orlando, both in June, in addition to being mailed to AAMI and AWHONN members.
The 1st edition of Healthcare Technology Horizons, published in 2005, received such strong positive feedback that the TMC decided to create a 2nd edition. This will be the 6th edition of AAMI's special Horizons publications in 4 years. Three others-IT Horizons-focused on IT issues in healthcare; and one other published in 2006-Hemodialysis Horizons-examined dialysis issues.
