Singapore, 16 May 2007 -- The first Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) AsiaPac07 Conference & Exhibition, in association with CHIK Services, opened in Singapore with a focus on proven technologies and management systems that can provide better quality patient care to more people, more efficiently and at lower cost. HIMSS AsiaPac07 is the first gathering of more than 1000 healthcare and technology experts and policy-makers in the Asia Pacific to focus on advancing quality healthcare through technology.

HIMSS AsiaPac07 was officially launched by Singapore's Minister for Health, Mr Khaw Boon Wan, at the Raffles City Convention Centre. The opening keynote featured Prof Tan Ser Kiat, MBBS.FRCS (Glas), FRCS (Ed), FAMS, Group CEO, Singapore Health Services; CEO, Singapore General Hospital; Clinical Professor, National University of Singapore. In addition, over 50 industry thought leaders will be speaking throughout the week at this healthcare IT conference and exhibition.

Speaking on the eve of the Conference Opening Ceremony, Mr H Stephen Lieber, HIMSS' President and CEO said, "There is immense scope for Asia Pacific countries to develop better clinical systems and health administrative solutions as part of a broader effort to improve patient care across the region. Fortunately much of the technology in this area is readily available. What we need is governments and businesses in the Asia Pacific working more closely together and carefully investing in quality IT systems and enhancing standards to improve healthcare decision making and work processes. This requires foresight to implement open, collaborative and integrated systems that focus on patients."
Close to 1,000 leading experts in healthcare and technology, including top physicians, nurses and clinicians, IT experts, informatics specialists and policy makers are attending HIMSS AsiaPac07 to exchange knowledge, showcase successful strategies and share practical solutions for today's challenges and future opportunities in healthcare IT.
