The National Research
Universal Reactor in
Chalk River, Ontario.
The National Research Universal Reactor in Chalk River, Ontario has resumed production of medical isotopes.
The facility had been shut down since November 18, 2007 and it was feared it would remain offline for many months, resulting in a dire shortage of the agents used in nuclear medicine worldwide. Fortunately Chalk River returned to operation after about one month offline and is scheduled to return to regular delivery of isotopes to medical facilities as early as December 31.
