ARLINGTON, VA - Clinical engineering managers and supervisors now have a comprehensive new resource to consult for information on a wide range of important and timely clinical engineering issues.

This month, the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is releasing The CE Management Guide: Lessons from the Field, a comprehensive, searchable collection of nearly 200 clinical engineering-related articles published in AAMI's journal, BI&T, over the last decade.

"This new CD is an important new tool for anyone involved with clinical engineering, especially those who oversee clinical engineering departments," says Arif Subhan, CCE, senior clinical engineer with Masterplan of Chatsworth, CA.

According to Subhan, The CE Management Guide also makes a valuable study tool for those preparing for the exam to become certified as a clinical engineer (CCE).

Subhan, a leader of the American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE), approached AAMI about creating this new resource more than a year ago. Since that time, members of AAMI and ACCE have combed through dozens of articles, searching for the most timely and relevant articles to include in this compilation.

"Historically, people have always suggested reading BI&T as an important part of preparing for the CCE exam. But searching through hard copies of the journal or searching online for articles can be a bit cumbersome when preparing for an exam. This CD puts everything you need in one concise product."

With topics ranging from benchmarking to productivity and quality management systems, the CD is organized into eight topic areas to help guide users:

* Technology Management
* Service Delivery Management
* Product Management
* IT / Telecom
* Education of Others
* Risk Management / Safety
* General Management

The product has been assembled and reviewed by a peer group of respected clinical engineers to ensure the relevance of all included material, including Bob Stiefel, CCE, director of clinical engineering at the University of Maryland Medical System; Mike Carver, CCE-E, CBET-E, retired of ARAMARK Healthcare Technology Services-Clinical Technology Services; and Ismael Cordero, healthcare technology manager at Orbis International, Inc.

"This effort represents the combining of knowledge and resources of both AAMI and the ACCE, resulting in an indispensable product," says Subhan.
