Steris Corporation has announced it will cut jobs and consolidate functions to help reduce expenses and enhance profitability. At the same time, Steris stands behind its 2008 profit expectations.

Although Steris did not give a number or proportion of job cuts or distribution regionally, a company official did say that most of the cuts were in the U.S. and mainly general and administrative positions, not manufacturing jobs.

Under the program, the Company expects to reduce management layers, eliminate redundancies and consolidate functions to improve efficiency. Other savings will come from reduced overhead expenses for the medical technology and services company that specializes in infection control. The company has more than 5,000 employees worldwide.
