In a campaign stop in Gary, IN, Senator Hillary Clinton met with steel workers in a union hall where the candidate's battle cry of "jobs, jobs, jobs" rang true as rust belt voters' chief concern. In addition to blue and white collar job woes, the Democratic presidential candidate mentioned that American radiologists' jobs were at risk because of teleradiology being performed in India.
The campaign stop's theme was that no one is safe from outsourcing. The New York Times reported that Senator Clinton talks about her own job prospects as well as the jobs of those in her audience.
Overseas outsourcing of X-ray reading is performed only on a limited basis since radiologists must be American board certified. But the example provides a sobering scenario of global competition for jobs at all skill levels.
