Dr. Sanjay Gupta on CNN Wednesday
This week, as the public awaited news about Senator Edward M. Kennedy's condition, many doctors reported on the complexity of diagnosing and treating brain tumors.
On CNN, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the network's chief medical correspondent and a neurosurgeon, approximated the affected area of the Senator's brain using GE Healthcare's Advantage workstation for MR, which Dr. Gupta explained is pending diagnostic approval from the FDA. It was a rare demonstration of advanced medical imaging technology on national television. (The image shown was for demonstration purposes and was not a scan of the Senator's brain.)
Dr. Gupta noted that surgeons will consider data on the tumor size and location, as well as biopsy and other test results in order to recommend treatment. (See related story at www.dotmed.com/news/story/6064.
