Dr. Scott Stringer
MCV Physicians (MCVP) has appointed a new president of the organization, which is the medical practice associated with doctors at VCU Health. Scott P. Stringer, M.D., M.S., FACS, will start in his new role April 1. Along with this appointment, Stringer will also serve as the senior associate dean for Clinical Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Medicine.

As the president of MCVP, Stringer will bring his experience and management skills to help advance efforts to deliver compassionate care, innovative research and engaged teaching across the health system and School of Medicine. Doctors at MCVP practice within 19 clinical departments, ranging from emergency medicine to pediatrics.

Stringer has 41 years of experience as a physician and 36 years in leadership roles. He will join MCVP from University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), where he serves as the chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Stringer is also the vice-chair of the UMMC Council of Clinical Chairs.

The appointment comes after a competitive two-year search. Marlon Levy, M.D., MBA, interim senior vice president of VCU Health Sciences and interim CEO of VCU Health; and Arturo P. Saavedra, M.D., Ph.D., MBA, dean of VCU School of Medicine and executive vice president for medical affairs at VCU Health, shared the news in a letter with faculty and health system employees this week.

“Dr. Stringer’s accomplishments testify that the days of the triple threat are not over. He will display his talents in our practice plan as it evolves while safeguarding the equally pivotal missions for research and education,” Levy and Saavedra wrote in the letter.

Stringer says he looks forward to “collaborating with our incredibly talented team of physicians,” noting that he will work closely with the School of Medicine and health system to continue to build on team members’ strengths, advocate for their needs and support the ongoing development of clinical, educational and research programs.
