Six Canadian hospitals are consolidating medical imaging services across 13 sites through a new partnership with Sectra, adopting its enterprise imaging system, Sectra One Cloud.

The transition is being led by ENHANCE Ontario, a regional partnership of hospitals in Central East Ontario. The move is part of a broader effort to streamline radiology, breast imaging, and orthopedic planning workflows, while enabling more secure image sharing and centralized resource management. The six hospitals involved are Campbellford Memorial Hospital, Haliburton Highlands Health Services, Lakeridge Health, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Ross Memorial Hospital, and Scarborough Health Network.

“This integration will build on our One Patient, One Record strategy and enable our member hospitals to easily and securely exchange images and information,” said Andrew Kelly, chief digital officer at ENHANCE Ontario. “It also allows us to share resources as needed, ensuring continuous, high-quality patient care.”

The implementation will cover imaging services for a region that serves more than 1.5 million residents and performs around 1 million exams each year. Sectra, based in Linköping, Sweden, will provide ongoing system management, monitoring, and upgrades as part of the managed cloud service. The solution is designed to scale with growing imaging volumes and may be expanded into additional imaging specialties over time.

Dr. Steve Gazzola, chief and medical director of diagnostic imaging at Scarborough Health Network, noted that SHN is replacing two legacy PACS systems. “Sectra’s platform brings the reliability, efficiency, and clinical integration we need,” he said. “With streamlined workflows, we can ultimately reduce wait times and improve outcomes for patients across our region.”

The contract was signed in the first quarter of Sectra’s 2025–2026 fiscal year. Initial modules will include radiology, breast imaging, orthopedic planning, and a vendor-neutral archive.

Sectra has held a consistent top ranking in the “Best in KLAS” awards for enterprise imaging in Canada.
