Siemens Healthineers and Cook Medical have announced a commercial partnership focused on advancing radiation-free, image-guided interventional procedures using MR imaging.

The companies are jointly developing what they call the Interventional MRI (iMRI) Suite, a fully integrated solution that brings together real-time MR capabilities from Siemens with new MR-compatible interventional devices from Cook. The goal is to offer an alternative to traditional, X-ray-based methods used in many minimally invasive procedures.

The iMRI approach emphasizes soft tissue imaging, allowing for precise, real-time navigation without the use of ionizing radiation. The companies see potential applications in interventional oncology, pediatrics, and structural heart procedures — areas where both accuracy and patient safety are critical.

The suite is designed as a turnkey solution that includes MR systems optimized for interventions, MR-safe medical devices, clinical training, planning software, and ongoing support. Siemens is contributing its MR imaging and software platforms, while Cook is providing its interventional tools and procedural expertise.

“MR in the interventional suite has always been a concept with tremendous clinical potential, but it has also faced significant barriers,” said Andreas Schneck, head of magnetic resonance at Siemens Healthineers. “Together with Cook Medical, we’re leading the way into a new era where iMRI becomes a precise radiation-free standard of care.”

According to Cook, the partnership reflects a shift toward integrating imaging and devices to improve clinical workflows and reduce radiation exposure for both patients and care teams.

“Our partnership with Siemens Healthineers is about more than device integration; it's about revolutionizing interventional procedures,” said Peter Polverini, vice president of Cook Medical’s iMRI division.

Cook Medical is based in Bloomington, Indiana. Siemens Healthineers is headquartered in Erlangen, Germany.
