Some call it "FIME" and rhyme it with "rhyme." Some call it "FIME" and say it like "he may." There are many pronunciations for the name of the show whose initials stand for Florida International Medical Expo because attendees come from more than 100 countries.

This year's attendance topped 9,300 and matched last year's; exhibitors included more than 600 companies.

"With the way the economy goes, we are very happy with this year's attendance," said FIME Executive Director Brad Mandell. The show had a record first-day attendance this year, he noted.

"Being from Miami I saw a lot more attention to the show this year. It was a very productive show to attend," said Mike Machuca, President, Diagnostic Medical Equipment Solutions (DMESC), Miami, FL. "The market is changing. A lot of clinics are closing in Florida so for us it's very important to pay attention to the Latin-American market. A lot of people attend the show from South and Central America and the Caribbean." His company exports CT, MRIs and other equipment to Argentina, Mexico, the Caribbean and elsewhere.

But the expo didn't just revolve around the Americas. It was a global conference that reflected global trends.
