One of healthcare's most significant meetings takes place next week. The 50th annual meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) will be held September 21-25 at the Boston Convention Center.

"The theme of the meeting (50 Years of Learning, Caring and Collaboration in the Treatment of Cancer Patients) is well aligned with our mission to improve patient care through education, clinical practice, advancement of science and advocacy," said ASTRO President Patricia J. Eifel, MD. "For a Society whose quest is to improve patient care, we are eager to hear the latest advancements in science, technological innovations and to challenge each other's ideas in an open forum."

More than 10,000 radiation oncology professionals from around the world will attend the meeting including physicians, physicists, technologists, dosimetrists, and nurses.

Top OEMs will be showing their technologies; the latest research in radiation oncology will be released. Keynoters include Robert A. Weinberg, PhD, Whitehead Institute, Professor of Biology, MIT; Atul Gawande, MD, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard School of Medicine; and Charles L. Sawyers, MD, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

In addition to an array of focused educational and scientific sessions, the meeting will include a health policy luncheon, panels devoted to essential topics in breast cancer management, radiotherapy and proton therapy, and numerous other important topics.

This year, a virtual meeting center will provide post-meeting access to valuable professional content online in downloadable streaming media. Virtual meeting registration fees apply.
