Andover, Mass., October 17, 2005 - Royal Philips Electronics today bolstered its advanced cardiovascular offerings with the industry's first real-time link for tableside control of all Philips Allura Xper FD 10 and 10/10 cardiovascular (CV) X-ray system functions, which are designed around improving physician workflow in the catheterization (cath) lab. This and other innovative cardiovascular solutions from Philips were presented at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation's (CRF) Seventeenth Annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) scientific symposium, in Washington, D.C.
In addition, John Carroll, M.D., chief of cardiology, director of the Cardiac & Vascular Center at the University of Colorado Hospital, performed a live case to illustrate the benefits of interventional tools in cardiac workflow, with 3D coronary modeling in X-ray and CT, Allura 3D-CA and StentBoost in one procedure. In addition to improving efficiencies, the tools help to increase the accuracy of lesion assessment and correct stent placement.
Outfitted with the new real-time link, the Philips Allura Xper FD 10 and 10/10 cardiovascular X-ray systems help interventional cardiologists better control and manage procedures by providing important functions, such as StentBoost and Allura 3D-CA, at their fingertips. These unique interventional tools from Philips improve the visualization of the coronary tree, leading to better clinical insight for stent placement and lesion assessment. The real-time digital link offers physicians more control, lessens reliance on cath lab support staff, speeds up interactions between the surgery table and control room and increases overall efficiency.

"Illustrating Philips commitment to developing solutions that are designed around the customer, simplified and advanced, we are proud to announce the new features to our Allura Xper FD 10 and 10/10 systems," said Bert van Meurs, senior vice president, Cardio/Vascular X-ray, for Philips Medical Systems. "These tools allow physicians to focus on patients not on the technology and bring pivotal interventional functions tableside with tools such as the Philips exclusive StentBoost."
Together, all of these unique features improve the total interventional procedure from start to finish. The workflow gains created by the Philips Allura Xper FD 10 and 10/10 enhancements help reduce procedure time for patients.
Philips new fusion technology will allow 3D computed tomography (CT) images to be transferred and used in tandem with Philips Allura Xper FD systems during interventional procedures. Combining these two proven and effective modalities may dramatically improve visualization and, therefore, treatment planning, for patients who need to undergo more invasive procedures such as stent placement.
